Saralpara Geography and how you can commute?
Saralpara picnic spot is located in the Kokrajhar district of Assam/ India. It shares a border with our very close neighbor Bhutan. From Guwahati city, this is roughly 225 km away by street (NH-427). However, this picnic spot is very conveniently accessible from the Bongaigaon district of Assam and Kokrajhar town itself. From Guwahati, you can go by Azara road through the intersection of three different districts of Assam i.e Goalpara, Bongaigaon, and Chirang i.e via (NH-17). Then again you can likewise take another route i.e via Baihata Chariali and Rangia road over the (NH-27) to arrive at the main picnic spot of Saralapara.

But whatever the route you pick to travel from Guwahati to Saralpara we advise you to take at least one day of halt at Bongaigaon district and proceed on the next day. This picnic spot has an off-road journey of approx. 30 km which will take a minimum of 2 hours of additional time to arrive at the final spot. So it will be a very chaotic timetable if you are traveling from Guwahati and planning to return on the same day.
Public transport is also available from Guwahati to New Bongaigaon district and from there you can take a private vehicle on lease to arrive at the Saralpar main picnic spot. However, if anybody is fascinated to go by train, the nearest station would be Kokrajhar (KOJ)).
The Surroundings:
This is our personal experience at Saralpara that we visited recently in September 2021. Trust me, it was not the main picnic season in Assam but still, this spot was almost full with 70% of visitors in September as well, which was unbelievable. Generally in Assam, the main picnic season gets started from the beginning of December to the end of January, but if you have a place like Saralpara, then unquestionably a plan for such a trip is clear anytime.
Amid blue shading high mountains, with clear rivulets water that moving through the valley and sumptuous green grasses on the bank of the stream is barely enough to refer to the hypnotizing appeal of this spot at Saralpara.
Few parts of the rivulets are very shallow that you can see the riverbed very clearly and you will not be able to control your feet to soak in the water. Although this small rivulet doesn't look so deep from the ground, still the speed of the water stream is so high to the point that a little carelessness might make a major risk during your fun time. Hence we advise you to be conscious enough while on the water and skip those spots which seem a little deep inside.
The Food time:
If you are going for a picnic then it is obvious that you will also plan your best meal on the menu for lunch. There are basically two options available for this, i.e either you can proceed with a packed meal or you can prepare your food at the spot itself.
In our case, we had decided to move with the second choice and made our food at the spot. However, for a small breakfast, you can likewise continue with the packaged food concept that to save your time for additional cooking, and furthermore, it will give some instant energy after such a long journey.
For those, who want to make their food in the picnic area itself, you can carry a small portable gas cylinder that is attached to the cooking stand that to avoid any delay for fire and cook. But, please be conscious if you are moving with such a compact gas cylinder since it is an unsafe factor, and also carrying a gas cylinder isn't permitted on ordinary vehicles.
Cooked food at Saralpara picnic spot
As mentioned earlier, you need to travel by off-road of approx. 30 km, hence too much jolt of the cylinder might give you extra mental tension while you are in the vehicle. While carrying the gas cylinder inside the vehicle It is better not to plug the cooking stand over the cylinder for safety purposes. Furthermore, we like to exhort you, not to smoke inside the vehicle if such a cylinder is in the vehicle since safety matters the most even during the fun time.
In our case, we had gone through the spillage issue of the cylinder but fortunately, we had recognized the issue on time and resolve that quickly.
Hence, the most ideal choice is to carry a few blocks of wood scabs or firewoods inside your vehicle and make your food calmly with no extra tension. Simply remember to carry some tent garments to secure the breeze while cooking.
Fun hours at Saralpara:
When we talk about "Saralpara's picnic spot and its fun moments" the first thing that comes to everyone's mind is "to swim in the cleanest water of the rivulet". Yes, the water of that shallow rivulet is so clean and pure that the desire for swimming is obvious for every single visitor at the spot.
The tranquil breeze that coming from the closest jungle of the mountains contacts the pure and cool water surface of the little rivulet makes you feel so relaxed that, you won't have any desire to leave that spot and return for your everyday customary hustles.
Swimming in the cleanest water of the rivulet, moreover setting up camp, singing in a gathering, tuning in and dancing to the most loved music on your music player, most delectable dishes of your choice, and photography are the most memorable fun moments that you will spend with your dearest friends.
The colorful sunlight, high peak blue mountains, amazing sunset, and the cleanest water of the rivulet are a few of the most delightful factors for the photographers to click their best snap and keep that as a wonderful lifetime memory of Saralpara.
What are the primary issues that you will face at Saralpara picnic spot?
There won't be any such significant issues that you may confront while you are at the Saralpara picnic spot, however below is the list of few minor issues that we have gone through during the trip.
a. To arrive at this spot it has a rough road of approx.30 km which may make you annoying during the trip, but be rest assured that you will feel relaxed and forget everything once you reached the final picnic spot.
b. It has restricted "picnic or fun hours" from 5 AM to 6 PM. Visitors are not allowed to stay at this spot after 6 PM.
c. It will show the time zone of Bhutan on your watch which is almost half an hour advance than India. You may be misleading with that too as we did.
d. Poor mobile network signals.

Yes, there are few shops nearby the picnic spot but we advise you to bring your necessities before reaching at the final spot. Also there is a local market available at the residential area ,you may ask any residence for guidance.
